Welcome! We are so happy you’re considering Oak Hill Elementary for your child and your family. Oak Hill is a special community, situated on 16 acres of land in Southwest Austin, that embodies so many of the wonderful qualities of the city of Austin. Since 1974, we’ve been watching our Oak Hill Eagles soar into the future.

Our PTA is made up of parents, guardians, and other family members who are passionate about the OHE community and love to serve our students, teachers, staff, and fellow Eagle families.

Just one of the many roles of the PTA is to help guide incoming families to Oak Hill. We hope that you will find this page helpful whether you are still deciding where your student will spend their elementary years or you’re looking for more information on “What’s next?” Following registration.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why Oak Hill?

Since 1974, Oak Hill Elementary has been serving the Southwest Austin community. A part of Austin ISD, OHE offers wonderful programming to address the educational needs and desires of the families in the neighborhood. Offering Dual Language classrooms from PK-5, “Leader in Me” curriculum from PK-5, PEAS outdoor education in 2nd grade, alongside all standard curriculum, OHE is helping to shape well-rounded students who love to learn!

Oak Hill PK and Kindergarten classrooms are also situated in their own building, separate from the main school building, along with their own playground. This unique opportunity allows these students who are still adjusting to Elementary school to learn in a smaller environment while still visiting the main building for lunch, specialities, and school-wide assemblies.

Is OHE my home elementary school?

Follow this link to the AISD’s school assignment by residence page to see if your address tracks to Oak Hill Elementary.

What do I need to do to register my child for kindergarten at OHE?

Make sure that you have completed the online registration for your incoming kindergartner. To enroll for the 2024–25 school year, please be sure you have an AISD Portal account. Visit portal.austinisd.org to create one or log in. Registration opens in January. (Please note: there is a new registration system launching for the 2024-2025 school year. Details forthcoming.)

You will also need to submit the following documentation. You may do so online or in-person at our Early Learner’s Day in April.

  • A copy of your child’s birth certificate
  • A copy of your child’s social security (optional)
  • A copy of your child’s immunizations (must be up to date)
  • A copy of enrolling parent picture ID
  • Proof of residence (must be a utility bill, current/signed lease, or mortgage statement)

Can my student ride the bus?

The bus routes are updated every summer depending on student registrations. In August, AISD sends a letter via the USPS mail that has each student’s bus information. To get an idea of bus schedules, prospective parents may look at the CURRENT routes to get an idea of the when and how’s of the bus system. AISD has a bus stop finder utility here.

Wondering how you can get informed about what is happening at OHE?

Visit the school website.

Join the OHE PTA Facebook Group.

Once your student is registered, school-wide communications come through Konstella. To be added to the OHE Konstella community please reach out to communications@ohepta.org.

Are there any events to help my Kindergartner prepare for their new school?

Oak Hill offers many ways to help get your incoming Kindergartner (and family members and guardians!) ready for their big year ahead. Starting with Early Learning Day in the Spring, you and your student will get to tour the school, hear from the administration, current teachers, and parents, and experience what a day in the life of a Kindergartner at Oak Hill is like!

In the summer, we offer several Kindergarten Play Dates on the playground they will call home for their first year.

Finally Kinder Camp is offered at an additional cost to incoming Kindergarten students who would like to get a better idea of what each day will hold. Held in July, camp runs from Monday-Thursday 9-12 and is a great program to help your child adjust!

When do we find out who our child’s teacher is?

Classroom assignments typically go out the week prior to the start of the school year and are followed by a Meet the Teacher event. This is an opportunity for families to bring in school supplies and get familiar with both your child’s teacher and other families.

Is there a school supply list?

School supply lists will be posted close to the end of the current school year for the following. There is an option to order a school supply kit through the PTA and have them delivered to the school and placed in your student’s classroom for the first day of school.
